“Out of nowhere, she’s leaning in your window, singing songs out of your soundtrack. Play it back. Permanently into your heart.”– Brace, Twin Shadow (ft. Rainsford)
What’s one of the quickest ways to make someone light up? Talk to them about the things they are passionate about. Over the course of time I have been watching the videos of YouTube creator Frank James, I noticed a theme. He drops musical references often and makes it no secret that he holds a special place in his heart for The Beatles. So why wouldn’t I jump at the chance to nerd out about music with him?
Known for his popular personality typing videos, Frank’s Myers-Briggs type is INFJ. This is a trait we both share. If you take a moment to indulge typing stereotypes, individuals who identify as INFJ are known to have a very intimate connection to music. Of all the descriptors I’ve seen applied to the INFJ personality, this is one of the most accurate to my own life.
I decided to reach out to Frank James about the idea of a video exploring his musical journey over the course of his life. The songs that meant the most to him at particular moments in his life would act as markers along a timeline. He obliged and what resulted was a video touching on topics ranging from The Beatles and Christian music to breakup albums. Frank also agreed to my suggestion to compile a playlist containing the songs he mentions in our conversation about communication through the lens of music. I did the same.
